Graveside Service for Jerry F. Gosnell, Sr. will be Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 2pm. at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore, OK. under the direction of Dighton-Moore Funeral Services of Owasso, OK. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 16th from noon to 8pm. Family will be receiving visitors from 6 – 8pm.
Jerry passed away on September 12, 2015 in Owasso at the age of 72. He was born in Tryon, NC on May 03, 1943, one of Lewis & Ruby Gosnell’s three children. He moved to Tulsa, OK in 1965. While working at Fred Jones Ford, he met a young lady named Joyce Marie Chafin. There was an instant attraction and both were determined to get to know each other better. On April 17, 1970 they were married at the Freedom Life Church of God in Tulsa, OK. a union that lasted 39 years, before Joyce passed away in May 2009. In the many years of Jerry’s life he has had numerous jobs; race car driver, car salesmen, plumber, truck driver for over 30 yrs, a dump truck driver for many years and retired due to health issues. In addition to working hard to provide for his family he enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his 4 grand-children & 1 great-granddaughter. He also liked NASCAR, old cars & trucks, and he loved to take drives anywhere to relax. A devoted husband, dad and Papa. Jerry was stem but, a loving man. He would give the shirt off his back if he needed to help family or friends. Many times over the years he taught his son, Jerry, Jr. to care for others just as he did.
Family members who carry treasured memories include his son; Jerry, Jr and his wife Krista, of Claremore. 4 grand-children; Bethany Nikole (Gosnell) Bristol and husband Greg, of Tulsa, Nikolas Tyler, Sara Marie, and Matthew Franklin of Claremore. 1 great-granddaughter; Mkenzie Marie Dale Bristol of Tulsa, OK. His sister Bertha (Gosnell) Owens of Pamplico, Sc. Aunt Louise & Aunt Lib of Spartanburg, SC. 2 daughters; Sherry & Robin of North Carolina. Brother-in-law Roy and sister-in- law, Lois Colberg of Claremore. Brother-in-law Bill and sister-in-law Maxine Brown of Verdigris.Sister-in-law Ruth Garrison of Tulsa, OK, brother-in-law Ralph and sister-in-law Beverly Chafin of Bartlesville, OK. many other nieces, nephews, and cousins in North & South Carolina and Oklahoma.His companion for over 4 years, Mary Kay Poulton of Claremore, OK. He was proceeded in death by his wife Joyce Gosnell, parents Lewis & Ruby Gosnell, sister Betty McCarthy.
